Brazil Chapter Interpore

https://www.interpore.org/national-chapter-brazil/

The Brazilian Chapter of Interpore was created on October 20, 2014, during the First IMPA Interpore - Workshop on Porous Media, held at the Brazilian National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), in Rio de Janeiro. More than 50 researchers attended this meeting, from Brazilian and international universities, as well as from companies. The main objective of the BR-InterPore, parallel to the global InterPore mission and along with the other national chapters, is to create a platform for scientists and engineers involved in porous media studies in Brazil and around the world. The BR-InterPore will focus on interdisciplinary fundamental studies of porous media in connection with applications and national technological demands. It aims to advance and disseminate knowledge for the understanding, description, and modeling of natural and industrial porous media systems. As a major impetus to the development of porous media community worldwide, the fundamental research of porous media in connection with applications and national technological demands has had a major impact on the Brazilian community, stimulating many new and exciting discoveries, but linked to general InterPore mission. In the BR Chapter there is no Chapter Officers. Fulfillment of the BRAZIL INTERPORE CHAPTER MISSION and supporting strategic goals were accomplished in the Brazil Interpore Chapter Meetings through the action items:

1) Spread the Brazilian Chapter and InterPore to Academia and Industry in BRAZIL, but in close connection with the International Interpore community as well.

2) Continuous Improvement of a knowledge-sharing forum for exchanging ideas and expertise on natural and industrial porous media systems.

About InterPore https://www.interpore.org

Welcome to InterPore. InterPore, the International Society for Porous Media, is a non-profit independent scientific organization established in 2008. We are a young and quickly growing community with members from academia and industry world-wide. Our general aim is to advance and disseminate knowledge for understanding, describing, and modelling natural and industrial porous media systems.

4th BR-Interpore Conference on Porous Media (Year 2022). We will run 5th in Rio Grande do Norte, in the North East of Brazil, in the first or second week of August 2022. We are very optimistic about gathering in Rio Grande do Norte and we are planning a hybrid  5th BR-Interpore conference 2022, which will be accessible from anywhere in the world following the same successful mode of the 4th BR-Interpore in 2021. We hope to see the Brazilian community – virtually – at 5th BR-Interpore. We will follow the same format of th e 4th BR-Interpore (see the website, https://interpore2021br.ufrn.br/) with several  distinguished Speakers from Brazil and abroad.

6th BR-Interpore Conference on Porous Media (Year 2023). We are pleased to indicate the planned activities for next year 2023, starting to the strategic 6th BR-Interpore Conference on Porous Media, which will be held in the city of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. The 6th BR-Interpore Conference will be organized by LNLS-CNPEM https://www.lnls.cnpem.br/home/ We are planning a 6th BR-Interpore Conference on Porous Media in a hybrid conference which will be accessible from anywhere in the world, but with a preferential in person to mostly of the activities.

LNLS-CNPEM is the host of the Sirius (https://www.lnls.cnpem.br/linhas-de-luz/), the new Brazilian synchrotron light source. Sirius will allow hundreds of academic and industrial research projects to be carried out annually, by thousands of researchers, contributing to the solution of great scientific and technological challenges, such as new drugs and treatments for diseases, new fertilizers, more resistant and adaptable plant species and new technologies for agriculture, renewable energy sources, among many other potential applications, with strong economic and social impacts.

Sirius at LNLS-CNPEM is the largest and most complex scientific infrastructure ever built in Brazil. This large equipment uses particle accelerators to produce a special type of light called synchrotron light. This light is used to investigate the composition and structure of matter in its most varied forms, with applications in practically all areas of knowledge. Sirius is an open infrastructure, available to the Brazilian and international scientific community, developed at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) – a private non-profit organization under the supervision of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations (MCTI). Sirius is funded by MCTI and designed by CNPEM researchers and engineers, in partnership with the Brazilian industry.

The 4th Brazil Interpore Chapter Meeting (4th BR-Interpore) took place in Brazil from 2-4 August 2021, totally free of charge.

The 4th BR-Interpore is a new Brazilian forum for discussing on advances and disseminate knowledge for the understanding, description, and mathematical and modeling foundations of natural and industrial porous media systems in the lines of InterPore https://www.interpore.org/

We ran 4th BR-Interpore in full virtual conference mode, August 2-3 keeping in mind the worldwide time zones. We had 222 participants from 21 countries around the world, 166 from Brazil and 56 from abroad (South America, USA, Europe, Asia), from academia and industry (Professionals, Graduate Students, Post-Docs and Professors).
