Unicamp is the 232nd best university in the world, according to QS WUR 2025 ranking
Original Article by Felipe Mateus on Jornal Unicamp.
Unicamp is the 2nd best in the country and 10th in Latin America; 35 Brazilian and 194 Latin American institutions were evaluated.
Unicamp was ranked 232nd in the 2025 edition of the QS World University Ranking (QS WUR 2025), one of the main international university rankings. This places the University in the group of the 15,6% best universities in the world. In the 2025 edition of QS WUR, 5.663 educational institutions from 106 countries were evaluated, with 1.503 institutions classified.
Also according to QS WUR 2025, Unicamp is the 2nd best in the country and 10th in Latin America. Of the total, 35 Brazilian and 194 Latin American institutions were evaluated.
“It is an honorable position for Unicamp to be among the best institutions in the world and, above all, in the country and in Latin America”, assesses Fernando Sarti, vice-rector of University Development. According to Sarti, the stability in the University's positioning is a positive indicator: “This shows that we have drawn up correct development strategies”.
The ranking is drawn up based on nine indicators with different weights: academic reputation, which corresponds to 30% of the score from 0 to 100 received by universities; citations per teacher, with a weight of 20%; business reputation (15%); student-teacher relationship (10%); employment outcomes (5%); internationalization of teaching staff (5%); internationalization of the student body (5%); international research network (5%) and sustainability (5%).
Unicamp's final score was 42,9, a result above that recorded in QS WUR 2024, when the score was 42,7. The University's position in the ranking fell from 220 in 2024 to 232 in 2025. The decline is justified by the increase in the number of institutions participating in the ranking this year. In total, 2.963 universities were evaluated in 2024 and 5.663 in 2025. With the results obtained, Unicamp surpasses 84,6% of the 1.503 ranked universities.
Point to point
Among the nine indicators evaluated, Unicamp stands out in terms of international research network, with 85,4 points, and academic reputation, with 71,8 points. Both questions showed an increase in scores. In 2024, the international research network received 53,7 points, and academic reputation, 70,3 points. Another item with an increase in scores was employment results: the University received 25,1 points in 2025, against 9,6 in 2024.
The business reputation indicators showed a drop in scores, with 40,3 points (50,1 in the previous edition); sustainability, with 65,9 points (74,8 in 2024) and citations per teacher, with 24,3 points (24,9 points in the last edition).

Sarti comments that the great advantage of university rankings, such as the QS WUR, is the possibility for the institution to evaluate itself in a systemic way. “Regardless of the specific indicators, we can analyze how our work compares to that of other large institutions in the world and also how much it has evolved over the years”, points out the dean.
